Life’s A-wastin’

 Life’s  A-wastin’

Your earthly life is so very short.  So do not waste any of it.

This conscious stream of thought strings along my morning jog.

Keeping company as I negotiate the twists and turns of my rote.

And invariably of the ups and downs of daily living, too.

A casual admonition constantly hammered in our minds.

Most expectedly for those of us in the twilight of our years.

Rivulets of counsel feed the besieging river on the subject.

Perchance we may be off-footed what this beatitude is.

Why seekest thou rest (and pleasure), since thou art born to labor?

We hear a’ Kempis chime in with such serious tone and sense.

.

So, we ask ourselves this itchy question.

How is life then wasted or not wasted?

A life filled with the heady pursuit of ease and pleasure?

Or of eternal quest of pious thoughts and acts to purify the soul?

ooooooooooo

A note to accompany this little poem:

Many do find themselves gladdened that this pandemic has allowed them the opportunity, or for others, may have “forced” them, to spend time and effort on those pious thoughts and acts critical to our own salvation.

On the other hand, I am saddened that we humans have to be reminded in such harsh and brutal ways for us to turn our gaze back to our nobler purposes.

Why cannot we with the innate goodness of our intended nature be able to turn ourselves on our own to such admirable endeavors?

Many are brought to worship and adoration only when calamities or tribulation visit.

Our Creator warns us about the “eye of our intention”. Always keep it singular!
